You’re invited to join CSI East Bay-Oakland Chapter for our February chapter meeting featuring the presentation “Marin County Civic Center Roofing Rehabilitation,” with Erin Humphrey, CDT, Architect, LEED AP, and Gregory Reidenbach, CSI, CDT, both of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE).
The Marin County Civic Center, with its iconic blue roof, is the largest public project designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Taliesin Associates. Construction of the 470,000 square-foot building was completed in 1969. The Civic Center has been designated both a National Historic Landmark and a California State Historical Landmark.
The Civic Center’s roof has been problematic since the period of original construction, with many leaks occurring throughout the building’s life. WJE’s presentation will include information on the history of the iconic Civic Center building, the process of developing design criteria for this historic property, the approach employed to select the roofing materials specified for the project, including options available for accelerated weathering testing, and specification options utilized for the project.
