You’re invited to join CSI East Bay-Oakland chapter for a presentation by Jeff Mosley, CSI, ASTM, Director of Technical Services at SINAK Corporation. The AIA CEU presentation from Jeff is titled “How to Achieve Sustainable Concrete Construction: Eliminate Flooring Failures”.
Summary: This course provides an overview of the considerations for specifying concrete to receive floor coverings, with
guidance on proper specification of concrete mix design, placement, and curing methods to secure a warranted floor
covering system for the project. Special emphasis on the environmental concerns of product choice application
technique and time savings are combined in a systems approach for improved overall concrete placement.
Learning Objective 1: Identify and list some of the common flooring failures caused by moisture movement due to
improper design, placement, and curing of the concrete.
Learning Objective 2: Describe the impacts of these flooring failures on human health, materials and labor costs, and
delays and scheduling conflicts as remediation occurs.
Learning Objective 3: Discuss how improper water/cement ratio, mix design, placement, finishing, and curing can
impact the moisture levels in concrete.
Learning Objective 4: Restate the importance of communication among all parties involved in flooring installation so
that unhealthy, unsafe, and costly flooring failures can be prevented.
Speaker: Jeff Mosley is the Director of Technical Services at SINAK, an AIA Passport Provider. As a former C-33 Contractor, Concrete Forensic Specialist, Expert Witness, former member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), and current Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and ASTM International member, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to his presentations.
Jeff offers a unique perspective and has an innate ability to bridge the gaps between designers’ goals, specifications, cross divisional product compatibility, function, and the team in the field, resulting in improved communication, reduced waste and time saved. Jeff currently serves as a voting member of ASTM Committee C09: Concrete and Concrete Aggregates and CommitteeF06: Resilient Floor Coverings and is the author of the “The Architects Guide to Concrete”.
