Scott's Seafood Jack London Square

CSI East Bay-Oakland Chapter presents Design and Investigation of Artificial Turf Fields for Athletic Play, with special guest speaker Christine Diosdado.

Scott’s Seafood Jack London Square – Oakland, CA

Natural grass sports fields cannot remain lush and resilient throughout the year. This fact, coupled with the need to conserve water, have prompted many sports programs to specify artificial turf fields. More than 11,000 multi-use artificial turf sports fields are currently installed in North American schools, colleges, parks and professional sports stadiums, and this trend is expected to continue. SGH has investigated several artificial turf field failures and has gained a good understanding on how to avoid issues that impact initial and long-term performance.

After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the history and evolution of artificial turf fields.
  2. Identify the basic components and performance criteria of an artificial turf field used for football and soccer.
  3. Recognize key materials and desired engineering properties of a typical artificial turf assembly
  4. Outline best practices when designing and investigating artificial turf fields
