April Meeting-Recap

In April, we held a joint meeting with our friends from the ASCE-Golden Gate branch.  Over 60 attendees enjoyed a review of the Port of Oakland Army Base project. Thanh Vuong, Port Supervising Engineer gave us a great presentation on the work that has been underway for years now, with major infrastructure improvements involving roads, utilities, rail, trucking and warehousing.

April Symposium-Recap

Our annual education event was a great success. We had over one hundred attendees and 10 sponsors. In addition to our usual co-sponsor, East Bay AIA, we added RCI as a co-sponsor. The event was expanded from four to six speakers and included lunch for attendees. In talking to attendees and speakers, I can see that there is still a strong desire to learn more about the “how-to” when it comes to designing the building envelope. We are reviewing evaluations and suggestions to help us plan for our next education event in November.

May Northwest-West Region Conference – Seattle

Several EBO board members will be heading up to Seattle this week for the Bi-Region Conference, https://psccsi.memberclicks.net/2017-bi-region-conference. There will be great education programs, networking, trade-show and CSI leadership training.

Chapter Update:

Ballots were counted last month and a new board was elected for the next fiscal year, starting July 1st. Thanks to all who sent in your ballots.  The new board member information will be posted on the website next month. If you are interested in becoming involved with the chapter committees, please let me know.

Our new chapter website is on-line, check it out at http://www.csieastbay.org/. We are also managing to keep our social media sites active, take a few minutes to see some of the latest posts, just click on the Twitter, Facebook and Instagram radio buttons on the website.

Membership: We continue to increase membership and have been able to retain our current members. Thanks to all for renewing your membership with us.  Our newest member is:

John Wadsworth – Specification Consultant

Passing of Andre Arnold.  EBO member Andre Arnold passed away last month, succumbing to injuries received in a head on collision with a drunk driver as he was on his way to work. Andre was an EBO member for over twenty-five years. An Architect and Project Director for the California State Department of General Services, he was proud of his recent work on design and construction of Skilled Nursing Facilities for our State military veterans. Andre was looking forward to retiring later this year and becoming active with the chapter and writing technical documents for CSI. We will miss Andre.

Student Activities:  The chapter will continue to develop relationships with local colleges. We have been fortunate to have Ron Betts, the Architecture and Engineering Technology Department Chair at Laney College, encourage his students to attend CSI events. We also had two of our EBO members speak to the DVC Architecture, Construction and Engineering Club this semester.

Certification:  It is not too late to join in on the chapter Construction Document Technologist (CDT) and Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) study groups for the Spring 2017 Exam. Contact me if you are interested in joining us.

Thanks for your support of the East Bay Oakland Chapter, hope to see you soon!
