Dear East Bay Oakland Chapter Members,
Happy New Year. Hope everyone had a nice holiday season. We are off and running on 2017.
Our January meeting, the 17th at Scott’s, will feature Dr. Gray Brechin, sharing his work on The Living New Deal Project. Dr. Brechin will talk about Depression era Art and Architecture in the Bay Area, many of the buildings and artwork are still with us, some have been demolished and lost to us. Come hear Dr. Brechin share his knowledge on the topic. For more info and registration go to https://conta.cc/2iBuUzS . We are still working on the Constant Contact site, we sent out e-mails to our members and all the local chapters, if you did not receive a constant contact invite, see the information on our website and e-mail Vonnie Bower, vbower@fmgarchitects.com to register. Payment will be taken at the door.
I will be attending the AEC Hackathon this weekend in San Francisco. I attended the opening night of the AEC Hackathon in Austin at Construct. If you are curious about what goes on, see the website; https://aechackathon.com/sf/. Damon Hernandez organizes these events and is a supporter of CSI, we hope to have him come to the East Bay Oakland chapter to talk about his efforts with the AEC Hackathons, his company IDEAbuilder; https://www.ideabuilderhomes.com/ and digital fabrication in the construction industry.
Save the date for our next, EBO Education Symposium, Friday April 21st; https://eastbay.csinet.org/Stay-Informed/Save-The-Date-Design-Detail-Disasters-April-2017-PDF.pdf. Based on input from our past seminar attendees, we are expanding our analysis of design detailing for waterproofing systems of the complete building enclosure. This will be a 6-hour symposium with below-grade, podium deck, wall and roofing detail discussions by an experienced group of presenters. This is a joint production of your EBO-CSI chapter, AIA East Bay and our new industry colleague, RCI. Don’t miss it.
We are planning our April joint meeting with ASCE, the topic will be the Port of Oakland Army Base and other Port projects. The POAB project has been going on for years now, with major infrastructure improvements underway https://www.portofoakland.com/port/seaport/seaport-logistics-complex/ and the first new buildings starting construction https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2016/11/01/oakland-army-base-redevelopment-project-breaks-ground/. Stay up to date with this ambitious project.
See our Program list for the year at https://eastbay.csinet.org/Stay-Informed/CSI-EBO-Upcoming-Events-List-2016-17-DOC.pdf . I will send out more details in the near future.
Thanks for your support of the East Bay Oakland Chapter, hope to see you soon.
Dan
